A historic town
The town of Vienna was established and named in the 1850s, although settlement and commercial activity occurred there throughout the 1700s. Historic buildings constructed in the 1700s and 1800s continue to exist in the central part of Vienna.
Today, Vienna is a distinct town within Fairfax County. The town features a vibrant commercial corridor along Maple Avenue (Route 123) which bisects the town of Vienna.
The town is accessible to downtown DC by car, Metro (with four stations), and also by bike, via the W&OD bike trail.
Excellent housing options
Although Vienna VA real estate comprises some condominiums and townhouses, most of Vienna’s housing stock consists of single family homes. Much of the town’s housing stock was built in the 1960s and 1970s, consisting of colonials, split levels, ramblers, and split foyers.
Much rebuilding as been going on within the central part of Vienna, with older homes being town down to make way for modern homes in the $2 to $3 million dollar range.

Outstanding transportation
Part of Vienna’s attractiveness is its proximity to major employment centers. Four Metro stations along two lines provide commuters with easy access to downtown DC. Those same lines also enable easy access to other employment centers including Arlington, Tysons Corner, and Reston.
Route 66, Route 123, and Route 29 all connect Vienna with DC via road. But for those individuals wishing to bike to work, the W&OD Trail provides access both to downtown DC and Reston.
Unique amenities
The town of Vienna is home to many quaint shops, restaurants, coffee shops, and bars. The town’s community center and library are also popular gathering spots.
Yet, Vienna is also home to Wolf Trap Farm Park, the only National Park that is a performing arts venue. This outdoor venue is world-class, featuring top artists encompassing all genres of music.
Vienna, Virginia Geography
Vienna is located in Fairfax County, just west of the Capital Beltway. Route 123 (also called Maple Avenue in Vienna) runs through the center of the town. Although Vienna is a distinct town within Fairfax County, it operates within the jurisdiction of Fairfax County, with the town government maintaining incremental town-specific amenities.
By car, DC can be reached in about 30 minutes. But Vienna is also served by four metro stations (two along the Silver Line in Tysons Corner, and two along the Orange Line). Both lines provide access to downtown DC while the Silver Line also provides access to Reston and Dulles Airport.
Vienna is also bike-friendly. The W&OD trail passes through Vienna, providing access by bike to Falls Church, Arlington, and DC to the east, and Reston and Ashburn to the west.

Downtown Vienna has many stores, restaurants, and places to enjoy nightlife. The City of Vienna also has a community center, library, and athletic facilities. And on the north side of Vienna, Wolf Trap Farm Park is the only National Park that exists as a performing arts venue.
